How it's calculated
Rows = ceil(wall height × 12 ÷ block height in inches).
Blocks per row = ceil(wall length × 12 ÷ block length in inches).
Wall blocks = ceil(rows × blocks per row × (1 + waste %)).
Cap blocks = blocks per row (when enabled).
Material assumptions
- Common block: 12 in long × 6 in tall × 8 in deep.
- First course goes on 6 in of compacted base and 1 in of bedding sand.
- Backfill with drain rock behind the wall and wrap in filter fabric.
- Block count assumes a straight rectangular wall; curves, corners, and step-downs typically add 5–10% waste — bump the waste slider accordingly.
- This calculator sizes the visible wall only. Drain rock, base course, geogrid, and adhesive are separate line items.
