Mexican Beach Pebble Sizes Explained
The five common Mexican beach pebble sizes — and which one belongs in your project.
Mexican beach pebbles are hand-picked, sea-tumbled stones from the Pacific coast of Baja. They are prized for their uniform, near-black color and rounded, polished shape.
The size you pick has a big impact on how the finished landscape reads.
The common sizes
| Size | Best use |
|---|---|
| 1/2" – 1" | Fine top-dressing between plants, potted plant surfaces. |
| 1" – 2" | Signature landscape stone — dry creeks, feature beds. |
| 2" – 3" | Modern minimalist ground plane. |
| 3" – 5" | Accent groupings, water features. |
| 5" – 8" | Statement rock — used sparingly among boulders. |
Pro tip
For a modern black-and-green front yard, 2"–3" is the sweet spot. Smaller reads busy, larger reads scattered.
