Rock Landscape Guide
How to design a rock landscape that reads intentional — not like a gravel dump.
A rock landscape done well is sculptural and low-maintenance. Done poorly, it is a hot, dead-looking gravel pad.
The design rules
- Group boulders in odd numbers, buried one-third.
- Use two rock sizes minimum — one field, one accent.
- Break up the field with drought-tolerant plants every 8–12 feet.
- Use commercial-grade fabric under the rock, not landscape plastic.
