Raised Bed Guide
The soil mix is the whole game — here is how to fill a raised bed the right way.
A raised bed lives or dies on its soil profile. The bed is the container; the mix is what actually grows the plants.
A workable fill recipe
- 60% quality planter mix or garden soil.
- 30% quality compost.
- 10% coarse sand or perlite for drainage (heavy soils only).
Pro tip
Fill to about 1 inch below the top of the bed. Fresh mix settles in the first month.
