Concrete Mixes Explained
The common ready-mix specs decoded — PSI, aggregate size, and slump.
Ready-mix concrete is specified by three things: compressive strength (PSI), aggregate size, and slump. Every ticket carries all three.
PSI by application
| Application | PSI |
|---|---|
| Residential slabs, walkways | 3000 |
| Driveways, garage slabs | 3500–4000 |
| Structural, footings for walls | 4000+ |
| Commercial and cold-weather | 4500+ |
Pro tip
Order 5–10% more than calculated. Running short on a pour is dramatically more expensive than a bit of waste.
